Home Again FAQ

Question

What do the letters mean?

Answer

These are activity flags, that stand for the following requests being sent:

E New enrollment

U Update existing enrollment

D Delete enrollment (adoption undone, etc)

Question

If a staff member enters the wrong chip number for an animal but doesn't realize it until after the reclaim is processed. If they enter a new chip number after the fact will that be pushed to HA again with the new number?

Answer

From Home Again: "The staff will need to send us the old chip number and the new chip number in order for the correction to take place.  It will not automatically upload to us just by switching the number in the software.  We will simply do a chip replacement in our database and the account will not be charged for the transaction.  If you have any questions, let me know."

Question

If an adoption is completed and then undone shortly afterwards (same day), are the details still pushed to the Home Again site?

Answer

From Home Again: "Enrollments are sent when an adoption is completed. Even if the adoption is then undone, it sits in Home Again's system until the pet is readopted, after which the details are updated and the previous information discarded."

Question

If staff create a test file with a "pretend" microchip to train an adoption on, then undo the adoption and flag the record to delete, how do we delete it if the "Home Again has been notified that Animal ID ##### is to be deleted. Please try to delete this animal later once the delete status has been received by Home Again." message is showing?

Answer

If the site doesn't actually send to Home Again, then simply turn off all settings to upload to the site. That will resolve the issue.

If the pet has an enrolment sent to home again the user will be prompted to send a delete request to home again.  This was how we were asked to set this up by Home Again but they have since stated they do not use the delete request, so we keep the functionality there in case they decide to enable this feature again.  However the animal won't be deleted until this update is received from the home again service, so it could be blocked for a minute or two until this goes through to Home again.  The only other way an animal could be blocked from deleting is if there is an error during the delete process, when this happens the process is rolled back and the user notified.

Note for Agents only:

If they undo the adoption then we send them an enrollment of "D" which stands for deleted, as they instructed back in 2005.  They then turned around some years later and said that they ignore this status even though they told us to use it.  So one of two things then happens, either a) the bet is readopted and then a new enrollment sent to HA where the previous owner details are then discarded.  or (b) the pet exits the shelter some other way and HA are never updated."

Troubleshooting if the chips are failing:

  1. Hover over the error column to see the error message.

  2. Change the "file transfer history" drop-down to error so all errors are displayed

  3. Click "add all failed transfers on page to batch"

  4. Click "retry batch"

  5. Repeat until all that's left are transfers that are failing.

  6. If there is still no meaningful error message, contact Home Again and have them troubleshoot.
