Public Site Tips for Agents - SYSTEM

October 26, 2023 at 5:36 AM

Some tips to help you navigate and troubleshoot SB Public Lost/Found sites in the System section.

Most of the time, there are only two features in System that you will need to use: Customise Options and Email Test.

There's only one super user for all public sites:

Username: cameron@shelterbuddy.com - see Last Pass for password.

To set up, make changes, etc you will need to log in using this login.

Customise Options

Public site regions link to SB regions/physical locations so the animals from that location can be shown on the public site. This feature helps you link regions to a public site and/or make minor changes to the display at the request of our clients.

This area works very much the same way as Customise Options in the Shelter Buddy site.

To make changes here, you will need to manually navigate to the page as there is no link that will take you there.

To navigate to system options, enter the address of the site and add /system/ to the end of the URL.

E.g. https://[site name here].shelterbuddy.com/system/

From here, you can make changes to customise for language, the email address linked to the site and more.

The Filter By Group can be handy for new site set ups as it will help you quickly find the options that needed to be adjusted for a new site, such as address, site name, contact information and variable language.

Remember to sync your changes.

Don't change anything unless you know what it does. If in doubt, ask someone with more experience or #engineering on Slack.

Email Test

This feature allows you to test the ability for a user to email from the site (e.g. "send to a friend") is working.

To perform the test:

  1. Click the link Email Test

  2. Two fields will appear

  3. Enter the email address to receive the email in the top box

  4. Enter a sender email in the bottom box*

  5. Click Send Email

  6. Check your email inbox to make sure the email arrived.

  7. If it did, test complete

  8. If it did not, you will need to troubleshoot:

    • Make sure valid email addresses are set up in Customise Options

    • Make sure the email address used in Customise Options is either the verified email address for the site or that it has the correct domain for the site if the whole domain has been verified.

    • if both these things are correct and it still isn't sending, consult #engineering.

*Note: this is purely to make sure the "sender" option works. In order to send the email, AWS will check that Shelter Buddy is authorised to send emails for the owner of the site and that means checking the stored email address is valid.
